CONSTRUCTION OF NEW BAGGAGE SCREENING SYSTEM TAKES PLACE AT YXS
August 19, 2014 - Prince George, BC— Starting Thursday, August 21st passengers traveling in and out of the Prince George Airport (YXS) can expect to see some temporary changes as the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) upgrades the baggage screening system. Construction of the baggage make up room is expected to last approximately ten weeks, so a temporary baggage screening machine will be placed in the Internationals Area of YXS. Upon arrival, passengers need to check in with their airline. Those traveling with bags have to go to the Internationals Area for baggage screening, then make their way through pre-board screening and into the Boarding Lounge to catch their flight. President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority, John Gibson, says “we are asking the traveling public for their patience during construction. Come the fall, Prince George will be home to some cutting edge, state of the art, efficient equipment just in time for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.” CATSA is working closely with the Prince George Airport Authority to ensure that, as it upgrades its baggage screening equipment, there are no disruptions to daily airport operations.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport an hour and a half before their flight and reminded the cut off time for checking into airlines is 45 minutes before departure. Those landing in Prince George won’t be significantly impacted. Arriving passengers can claim their bags from Carousel one. This project is expected to be completed late October.
